Dr John McCaffrey becomes youngest professor

ONE of Ireland’s leading cancer specialists, with links to the famous Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Hospital in New York, has become one of the country’s youngest professors. Dr John McCaffrey, 45, from Roganstown, Co Dublin, was this weekend honoured by colleagues in the Mater Hospital after he was made a UCD Professor of Clinical Medicine. The doctor has set up a fellowship with MSK where Irish registrars receive specialist cancer training before returning to take up key consultant posts here.

Dr McCaffrey is regarded as one of Ireland’s leading medics in the fight against cancer. His colleague at the Mater, Professor Des Carney, paid tribute to Dr McCaffrey’s clinical skills and his commitment to fundraising. – Don Lavery

TESTIMONIAL: "Paul was commissioned to assist with writing a lay summary of a research grant proposal for a piece of laboratory equipment. He phrased advanced science concepts in a way that could be easily understood, and which was a pleasure to read."
